iN business

iN is a national alliance of housing associations within the National Housing Federation.

iN business for neighbourhoods is the new agenda to improve the image of housing associations. The political and socio-economic climate is ripe for the new approach that iN promotes. There are unprecedented opportunities for housing associations to make genuine changes and build upon its strengths - diversity, social purpose and financial stability. The National Housing Federation recognised the need for change and seized the opportunity to initiate iN business for neighbourhoods.

What we are doing

For the last five years we have had a programme of community projects. These are funded through grants from Pinecroft Community Focus, one of our group members.

Grants are made each year to various non profit organisations, local to our housing schemes. These include Shopmobility in Woking, a community therapy garden in Normandy near Guildford, mediation services and a homeless project.

We work closely on projects with schools local to our housing schemes to encourage citizenship, health and safety. For the last five years we have provided two classes a year with resource materials on child safety. Other projects have included a competition to encourage ideas and a commitment to sustainability. A painting competition on designing a home for the future provided some exciting and challenging results, and a pumpkin competition was a fun way to encourage the growing of vegetables and healthy eating.
