Schools programme
Primary schools in Woking have been provided with safety books produced in connection with the London Ambulance Service and NHS Trust. The aim is to help reduce accidents in the home, on roads, and in water, etc. by raising awareness of potential dangers and how to avoid risks. The difficult issues of strangers, drugs and alcohol are also included. There are also sections on road safety, first aid and bullying.
Copies for each pupil of ‘Willpowers’ and ‘First Aid Handbook’ have been presented in school assemblies. These publications have been produced on behalf of Child Victims of Crime, a registered charity. In addition to books on safety, the charity has enabled children whose lives have been severely affected, to leave their problems behind and jet off to Disney World in Florida.
The books are a fun way of dealing with the serious topics of fire, water and countryside safety. The books have been a great hit with pupils and teachers.
Pumpkin competition
A pumpkin competition was held with a Junior School as a fun way to encourage the growing of vegetables and healthy eating. It was part of our community programme to encourage citizenship, health and safety.
The winning pumpkin was judged at the school’s assembly by Gill Baker, Greenoak Board Member and former Head of Home and Hospital teaching in NW Surrey.
Community awards
Not for profit organisations that operate in the areas local to our housing schemes are invited to apply for assistance for small grants towards their work or specific projects. The maximum award is unlikely to exceed £2,000. The grants committee meets twice a year.
