downloading BrowseAloud

Click on the image below and you will be taken to an external site where you will find full instructions to carry out the download and installation.  A Browsealoud icon will be placed in your system tray which is at the bottom right of your display.


After downloading Browsealoud, run the software and a control bar will appear. You can either use the controls to listen to the site or simply hover over the content that you wish to read by using your mouse.

BrowseAloud features

Reading Text Aloud 
Move the mouse pointer over text to hear it being read aloud. 

Text Magnification 
Magnifying text to the chosen font size and font style assists those with mild visual impairments.

Screen Masking
Alter the appearance of the screen by adding a combination of selectable colour filters to either the whole screen with a letterbox reading window or with an 'electronic ruler'.  This will benefit those with visual impairments and learning difficulties.

PDF & Word Reading
Reads PDF and Word documents in their original formats

Translate word-for-word between each of five languages: English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.  It also has a choice of 17 high quality voices, covering 9 International languages. These include: English, Welsh, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Swedish, Dutch and Flemish.

Look up accurate definitions from an updated database of words and definitions
