Residents switch rents to Allpay

The switch to payment of rents by direct debit and payment cards to residents of our sheltered schemes has been a great success. Where possible, residents are encouraged to use direct debit through their bank accounts. Greenoak will help any resident who is finding it difficult to open a bank account. For those who choose to use payment cards, rent is collected through three major networks, The Post Office®, PayPoint and PAYzone™ through a swipe card at their chosen outlet. The cards are now used instead of paying in slips for the Post Office® or Barclays Bank.
This card can be used free of charge at the outlets displaying the signs below.

Celebration barbecue

Greenoak held a celebration barbecue in September with over 80 residents of our sheltered schemes in Woking. Probably on the last fine sunny day of September, residents enjoyed an excellent event with caterers CJB Catering Musical entertainment was provided by Roger Venesse who had everyone singing along with old and new favourites.

Hairdressing

The new salon at Bethany Place, Woking is proving very popular with residents. A local hairdresser visits the scheme weekly and maintains the coiffures of many committed residents. The money for this facility was provided by a previous resident's legacy.

Lunch club

The monthly lunches provided at Apollo Place, Woking are a high spot for many residents. These lunches are prepared for around 30 residents by a resident assisted by the Scheme Manager. A typical meal is roast chicken, roast potatoes and fresh vegetables, with trifle for dessert.

Each meal is high quality and great value and even contributes a surplus for residents’ funds.

Healthy eating

A cookery demonstration is being organised for Woking residents in October. This will promote healthy eating and provide ideas for cooking for one or two. It will demonstrate that food can be fun on a budget.

Restoration of the Santa Maria

A resident at Apollo Place, Woking, has been hard at work restoring the model donated earlier this year. Work is now reaching its conclusion with the rigging and it will be on display in October.

Yoga for health

An enthusiastic though apprehensive group of residents turned up for their first yoga class. Staff have been taking yoga classes with a qualified yoga teacher using the lounge at one of the sheltered schemes, and it has now become an important part of the week. Residents enjoyed a gentle workout to improve flexibility and muscle strength. The course is an important tool for relaxation. These classes are now held weekly and are suitable for all ages and abilities including wheelchair users.
